I love the Brits and their television, despite the somewhat cringey-ness. I randomly got the first season of Gavin and Stacey from Netflix and heartily enjoyed it.
It’s the story of two people who have been talking on the phone through work and decide to meet and fall madly in love and immediately get engaged, you know…as you do.
The two writers are also in the series as their friends and are very funny.
It has the added benefit as being a nice glimpse into a different culture. Lots of British slang and jokes about people from Wales that I didn’t get at all.
Go...watch...enjoy.

Sorry I haven't been commenting, but I have been keeping up! I had much to say including the following: I LOVE British TV. I used to watch Coupling, As TIme Goes By, THe Vicar of Dibley (SO FUNNY) and My Hero on Saturday evenings on PBS in Dallas. I bought the whole Coupling series, but I never got around to watching the American version, which I understand is sorely disappointing. That said, I wasn't as thrilled with the Brit version of The Office as I am with the American version. Maybe because I prefer the American version of Pam.
When I went to England this summer to visit my sister, I thought I was so clever for knowing some of the little sayings and phrases (like, did you know that "vest" in Britain is what we would think of as an undershirt; what we call a vest is a waistcoat. I learned this from Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer). :)
We watched Coupling for a while, and it was great until the kindof goofy guy left in the last season.
And I wholeheartedly agree on the Office... the British version just made me feel uncomfortable.
We'll have to try the Vicar of Dibley and we somewhat enjoyed Chef!
I saw bits and pieces of Chef!, but I never saw a whole episode. And I totally agree about losing the charm of Jeff in coupling. He was great.
And wasn't there an American version of this in the late 90's called Ned & Stacey? With Debra Messing and .... the guy who played the goofy mechanic on Wings.... Thomas Haden Church! That's it. I don't know if it was the same story, but it's sounding familiar. Didn't watch that show, either, I just remember seeing bits of it while flipping channels. Ah, the channel-flipping days before Tivo.
I also third the sentiments about Jeff on Coupling. Such a worse show once he left.
I remember watching Ned and Stacy. I can't remember how they got together. I think they were just pretending to be a couple for some reason? It's all a blur...
